Quote:" Fishing is a world apart from all others, and inside it are special worlds of their own-one is fishing for big fish in small water where there is not enough world and water to accommodate a fish and a fisherman, and the willows on the side of the creek are all against the fisherman."

Q. Were the willows on the side of the creek as a symbol of how the world is sometimes a against  you?

A. I believe that Norman was using this a metaphor to how the world really is, and how its difficult it is to live in a world where the "willows on the side of creek" are against you in every thing that you do.

" Eventually, all things merge into one, and a river runs through it. The river was cut by the world's great flood and run's over rock's from the basment of time. On some of the rocks are timless raindrops. Under the rocks are the words, and some of the words are theirs. I am haunted by waters."

I picked this quote because it was beautiful. It explains how Norman feels about all that has happened in his life.

"...That's one trouble with  hanging around a master - you pick up some of his stuff, like how to cast into a bush, but you use it just when the master is doing the opposite."

I totally agree with this quote mostly from experience, you learn how to do sometthing and find out theres a better way to do it.

"... but you can love completely without complete understanding...."

How true. When you think about it, its alot like a mothers love. A mother wil always love her child even if she never understand him.

"... I still wanted to know, because it is not fly fishing if you are not looking for answers to questions."

This stood out to me as an explination to fly-fishing. I think the whole sport of fly-flishing is looking for answers to the questions that pop up during the sport.
